Nature’s friends

IMG_1633

This little friend gave me quite a scare one day! I came through the front door to see him hovering just outside my living room window. He landed, looked inside, then went to hover outside the dining room window for a moment, again looking like he was searching inside for somebody, before flying away. I caught a picture of him as he landed in a bush in the back garden.

He’s a cedar waxwing, and very pretty. The bright yellow band at the edge of his tail feathers was what first caught my eye, and his wings were beating so fast as he hovered that I couldn’t see the red tips, but you can see them a bit in the picture, if you look closely.

It was wonderful to have this little visitor outside my window. One of the things I love about having a back garden that leads to woods and a river is that I can see so much wildlife out there. There have been deer that have come into the garden, all kinds of birds, a groundhog or two, and there are raccoons there also, though I haven’t seen any yet.

Hi. We have cedar waxwings here in Minnesota and in the fall they will eat the berries from the trees. These birds are so beautiful. Judy
